Clark Gable
The King of Hollywood
William Clark Gable was born on February 2, 1901 in Cadiz, Ohio. When he was only seven months old, his mother, Adeline Gable, died. His father, William Gable, raised him from then on until he re-married.
When Clark was sixteen, he dropped out of school and went to work at Akron Tire Factory. Later that year, he was inspired to be an actor when he saw the play called "The Bird Paradise".
In March 1939 while Clark Gable was filming Gone With the Wind, he was granted a divorce to his former wife, Rhea Gable, who would not divorce him until she got the amount of money that she wanted. After the divorce, Clark was free to marry the woman of his dreams: Carole Lombard.
On March 28, due to all the changes on the set Clark was granted a two day vacation. He and Carole were overjoyed by this and quickly went to get packed. When he returned, Carole Lombard was now Carole Lombard Gable!
But Clark Gable was crushed when he found that Carole Lomard Gable was dead. She had been killed in a plane crash while out selling war bonds. He then joined the army and returned to movies years after, although they were not very big hits at the box office.
William Clark Gable died on November 16, 1960 in Los Angeles, California, just two weeks after filming The Misfits with Marilyn Monroe. Five moths after his death, his son, and only child was born. His name, John Clark Gable.
